Romeo y Julieta - Legendary Cigars
Romeo y Julieta is probably the most famous and romantic Cuban cigars brand. The old Cuban tradition to entertain cigar twisters by reading books to them - that is where the name of the brand comes from.
Romeo y Julieta brand was founded in 1873 by Don Inocencio Alvaro Rodrigues and Don Hose Manin Garcia. Their plant was a small one, but thanks to the hard work of its owners it soon was able to rival with the bigger manufacturers.
It is always hard to start a new business, especially in such highly competitive segment as cigar industry was in the end of the nineteenth century. Any new brand now needs decades to gain popularity and become highly profitable. Romeo y Julieta was much more successful. The inimitable quality of tobacco, superb twisting and nice packaging of the brand quickly conquered the hearts of the most demanding cigars aficionados.
Don Manin Garcia was the inspirer of the brand. He created the most profitable secret of Romeo y Julieta cigars which allowed the plant become one of the largest manufacturers in Cuba in less than a decade. The company reached success due to a very simple, but effective principle - quality means everything. Romeo y Julieta owners didn't have their own tobacco plantations so they had to purchase tobacco at the auctions. To control the quality of raw tobacco, Don Manin decided to send the experienced observers to the plantations of all potential suppliers. These people controlled all stages of tobacco growing process and made their decision whether to buy or not to buy from this supplier.
In 1886 Hose Manin Garcia left Romeo y Julieta. Inocencio Alvarez was the only manager of the company until he sold it to Rabell, Acosta and Co. Company in 1902. A year later the plant was sold to Hose Rodriguez Fernandez, or Don Pepin as friends called him.
Don Pepin was the man who knew how to promote cigar brands. At the time when other cigar plants owners didn't even think of advertising or trademark registration, Don Pepin performed a marketing revolution in Cuban cigar industry.
Rodriguez created a wide network of sales managers and representatives who were responsible for the heavy marketing of Rome y Julieta brand outside the country. Though the USA was still the leading brand exports market, Romeo y Julieta cigars also became known in Canada, Australia, Southern America, Spain, France, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland.
Cigar experts say that every real cigars aficionado should at least once in his life smoke a Romeo y Julieta cigar. The brand offers many different cigar varieties of different size and taste. Everyone should find something to his likings.
One of the unique characteristics of Rome y Julieta cigars is their great ageing resistance. These cigars may stay untouched for more than twenty years and only improve their taste and aroma.
Thanks to its immense popularity, Romeo y Julieta brand now steadily holds the second place in the world in sales, with only Montecristo ahead.
